BOUTIQUE ATELIER

CONCEPT

Inspired by the fashion designer, Macy Cloer’s, use of denim and the striking visual language of Robert Mapplethorpe, this boutique was conceived as a GALLERY-LIKE space where fashion becomes art. Drawing from Mapplethorpe’s mastery of CONTRAST, FRAMING, and SHADOW, the boutique’s design highlights the texture of denim and the boldness of the clothing line. Frames—both literal and conceptual—are used throughout the space to isolate and ELEVATE each garment, allowing the clothing to be experienced as curated works of art. This deliberate use of contrast and composition creates a bold, immersive retail experience.

Materiality plays a central role in reinforcing this narrative. The use of corten steel introduces a warm, weathered richness that visually contrasts with the soft, worn character of denim, while also nodding to themes of strength and rawness. Exposed concrete surfaces add a cool, industrial edge, grounding the space in minimalism and allowing the textures and tones of the clothing to visually pop. Together, these materials create a tactile, high-contrast environment that mirrors the designer’s aesthetic and Mapplethorpe’s bold approach to composition—striking, raw, and deeply intentional
